Before we left Woodbine, we had dinner in nearby Glenwood at a place called Walker's Tap & Grill. It's more of the same - good food, service and atmosphere. They put a twist on their offerings, as fish & chips had a gourmet batter and was served with a special tartar sauce But the star of the evening was the deviled eggs. !/2 of the egg is deep fried in a special batter (not at all greasy), with the top at the deviled egg mixture. That's topped off with Jalapeno peppers. It was unusual, but very tasty.

You ever see a deviled egg that looks like that?

The next day, we departed Woodbine and made it to Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. Set up was simple and took a lot less time than our last campground. We then went out for dinner at a Mexican restaurant, Don Juan's and the place was bustling.

Tom tried to talk Mrs. Juan into seating us sooner, but she wouldn't have any of it. Dinner was fulfilling and afterwards, we went over to a Super Walmart where 1/2 the town was shopping. We got some groceries and went back to the campground (Carolina Crossroads), and settled in for the night.

The temperature here in Roanoke Rapids is a bit more agreeable and on Sunday night we barbecued some ribs, left the screen door to the Puffin open and it was really comfortable.

The next morning, we lounged around, had a late breakfast and coffee, then headed out to look around.

So the thing is Peanuts. Yeah, peanuts. On the way here, we'd see all kinds of road signs and billboards advertising the best peanuts one could ever have. So went ventured off to find The Good Earth Peanut Company. The business is over 34 years old and family run. It's located just over the North Carolina border in Skippers, VA. The company's roots date back further as farmers.

It's an interesting place. The building is old and loaded with character. They process and prepare the peanuts in a set of buildings next to the store.

The security guard would not let us into the processing area.

A very sweet woman asked us if we wanted to sample their peanuts. We said yes, of course. And then she began taking out little containers and spooning onto paper napkins her samples.

  • Salted

  • Unsalted

  • Sea Salt

  • Redskin

  • Cajun

  • Sea Salt & cracked Pepper

... and then she rolled out some more...

  • Chesapeake Bay

  • Honey Roasted

  • Butter toasted Double dipped chocolate

  • Peanut Brittle

  • Sugar free Chocolate

The store had filled up with more shoppers and became noisy and crowded. We marveled at the dedication this woman kept opening small containers and spooning them out onto the napkins. She was unfazed by all the other shoppers. We chose a few different types of nuts and then headed for more to see and do.

So? What kind of nut person are you? Let us know!
