A very long time ago, my sister and I traveled together for a vacation that took us to San Francisco and Los Angeles. It was a fabulous vacation and one of the memories was of being asked to leave Bear Jamboree at Disneyland. I knew the lyrics and was excited and happy to be there and sang along with the animatronic bears. There were ushers in the theater who asked me to not sing. It wasn't like the bears minded, but I kept singing until the ushers had enough and asked me to leave. Walt and I never spoke after that experience. I'm surprised that my sister didn't put me back on a plane to the east coast.
Welcome to Kissimmee, Florida. It's on the apron of Disney and there are a lot of folks in this KOA Campground that are here for that. The people are from all over, mostly from north of the Mason/Dixon, getting out of the snow and cold. There is a large contingent of people from Europe. They have connected with RV companies that rent them campers at a discount rate, and then drive them to destinations like Disney, among other places, then drop them off at dealerships for resale or rental.
There are a lot of companies that do this, along with opportunities to rent almost any type of camper you like. It's kind of like an AirBnB on wheels. We drank wine with a young couple from Holland who were heading back to Europe the next day. We met some more folks from the Netherlands, Germany and we think Britain. It's an interesting way for coming to the US, while getting the experience of camping. All in all, it was fun and interesting to listen to their perspective about RV'ing, what's going on in America, especially compared to camping in Europe the things going on in their country. Language differences and customs aside, things seem kind of weird for them too. I guess no place is really perfect; always something that takes away from the allure. But the commonality was the love of family time and camping. That was very cool.
While in Kissimmee, we didn't visit a lot of area attractions, but did some shopping at a couple of different plaza's. You name the chain and you'll find it within a few miles of there we were stayed. In this part of Florida, there's an ongoing construction boom; a lot of new homes and apartment buildings. On the way to one of the larger shopping centers, we passed an overhead toll booth. Not sure of how this works for the new residents, where housing being built is located about a mile down the road.
For the most part we hung out at the campground, which was very comfortable, The sites were paved and very long, some over 100'. We booked a premium spot that had a firepit, beautiful polywood Adirondack chairs and picnic table on a paver patio. Overall, the sites are manageable, but closer together than we like. They have all kinds of activities and we made use of the pool. Aside from the people we met, we also had little critters around to entertain us.
Julie was able to capture the little guy hanging out on the patio furniture wheel. She also recorded (not sure if it's the same guy, but he serenaded us...
No, we didn't go to Disney. Sorry Walt!
